A more peaceful way to walk through divorce

Choosing to move forward with divorce is never an easy decision. Ending a marriage is complex and difficult for every member of an Ohio family, no matter how amicable the two parties may be, but there could be a better, more peaceful way to walk through it. Stressful litigation and complex court battles are not the only options for you.

One of your choices for divorce is marriage dissolution, also called uncontested divorce. This process can be faster and easier than a traditional contested divorce, but it requires that both parties be in agreement on all issues related to divorce. This is not the optimal choice for every couple, but it could be prudent to carefully weigh all of your options before moving forward.

Is there a better way to divorce?

Dissolution of marriage can save you significant costs because it takes less time to complete this process versus a traditional contested divorce. In order to be eligible for an uncontested divorce, you and the other party must agree on all factors of your final order, including the following:

  • Division of marital property
  • Equitable distribution of debt accumulated over the course of the marriage
  • Child custody and visitation schedules
  • Spousal support and financial matters

Before you file for marriage dissolution, you will need to go ahead and work through all issues that will impact your final order. This includes drafting a parenting plan and working through sensitive issues together. Uncontested divorce is more common for couples with relatively simple marital property and no kids, but it is possible that any couple could choose to move forward with this specific divorce option.

As with all of the choices you make regarding the end of your marriage, it is prudent to consider how the type of divorce you pursue will impact your future. Instead of allowing temporary emotions to drive your decisions, consider the best options for a strong post-divorce future.

Protecting your future interests

When walking through divorce, your future is on the line. In an uncontested divorce, you may be able to avoid litigation and court battles, but it is still important to be vigilant and protect your post-divorce interests. Before you move forward with the process of a dissolution of marriage, it is smart to seek a complete evaluation of your case and explanation of the choices available to you.

The end of a marriage is difficult, but an uncontested divorce could make this process easier for you and every member of your family.
