How Child Support Is Determined
In Ohio, child support is determined by use of a statutorily required formula. The formula considers the incomes of the mother and father, the cost of health insurance for the child(ren) and day care expenses. You can deviate upward or downward from the statutory amount if you can show the court a valid reason to do so. Valid reasons for deviation from the statutory amount include substantially equal parenting time for both parents, direct payment of expenses by a parent and the existence of extraordinary necessary expenses for the child(ren) or one of the parents.
